The Service to the Armed Forces Excellence in Service Award went to Lori Parker, the Service to the Armed Forces Volunteer of the Year Award went to Heather Tremblay, and the Business Operations Volunteer of the Year Award went to Anthony Gojmerac.

Our morning anchor, Jalen Wells, emceed the event and helped present the recipients with their awards.

Kara Nickens, Executive Director of the American Red Cross North Texas Region, says that volunteers make up ninety percent of the Red Cross's workforce, and it would not be able to make or respond to disasters without their help.

"We have people that go out in the middle of the night to make sure our community is taken care of," Nickens said.

The Red Cross also recognized numerous Sheppard Air Force Base volunteers for their work.

"We had a variety of awards given out today, from those that help us keep our fleet running or office running to those that are going out when we have disasters in the community," Nickens said.

Nickens adds that the Red Cross always has volunteer opportunities, whether it's installing free smoke detectors, helping people during disasters or helping at the office.
