Graham man identified as victim of fatal Jack County crash

JACK COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash in Jack County early Friday morning that closed a major highway for several hours.

According to the crash report from Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred just before 5:15 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, about a mile west of Bryson on U.S. 380 in Jack County.

Sgt. Gutierrez said a truck tractor with a semi-trailer was in the westbound lane of U.S. 380, backing unsafely with the trailer crossing into the eastbound lane of the highway. He said a 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling east and struck the trailer.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Tommy Bates, 80, of Graham, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the crash.

Further details have not been released at this time. DPS is investigating the fatal crash.
