Horseshoe Bend, Texas wineries preparing for Red River Wine and Beer Festival

IOWA PARK (KFDX/KJTL) — Breweries and wineries all over Texas come to the Red River Wine and Beer Festival every year, with some even coming all the way from Corpus Christi.

But, most come from right here around Wichita Falls.

Those at Horseshoe Bend Cellars Vineyard and Winery have been regulars at the Wine and Beer Festival for the last five years, and General Manager Gabriele Poenitzsch said preparing for the festival is all about knowing the past.

"We actually look at past records to see which ones sold the most. So, those that sold the most, of course, we'll bring them back, and we'll see ones that we didn't bring in the past [and] we'll try and bring them this year," Poenitzsch said. "So, we'll have Kirsche again this year, we'll have Peach as well, and we're gonna bring something different, which is Riesling and Pink Lady, which we haven't done before."

Poenitzsch also said that making sure to bring enough wine is one of the most stressful parts of preparing for the festival.

But regarding what they will bring this year, Horseshoe Bend will bring a wine that Poenitzsch credits a customer review for naming.

"So, one of the new ones we'll bring, it's Razzindel," Poenitzsch said. "It's a raspberry port Zinfandel wine, and that name came from a customer's review. The customer put "Razzindel" in a review even though at the time we didn't have Razzindel. So, we figured 'That's a great name, let's use it.'"

Drinks will flow this Saturday and you can bet the ones coming from the Horseshoe Bend booth will be worth the trip.
