Iowa Park Road closed as crews fight gas fire

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A portion of Iowa Park Road is shut down as crews work to extinguish a gas meter on fire after a pickup crashed into it on Tuesday afternoon.

The call came in just before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, with reports of a crash in the 3600 block of Iowa Park Road, near the intersection of Harris Lane.

Multiple units with the Wichita Falls Fire Department and the Wichita Falls Police Department are responding at the scene.

According to our crew on the scene, the driver of a tan Ford Ranger pickup said he was headed eastbound on Iowa Park Road in the center lane when a vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly.

The driver said he ended up crashing into a brick fence in front of a residence and striking a gas meter. The pickup burst into flames after hitting the gas meter.

Our crew on the scene said AMR responded, however, the driver managed to escape the vehicle with only minor injuries.

According to our crew at the scene, Atmos is currently at the scene working to shut off the gas to the meter so that firefighters can douse the flames.

Authorities have shut down both lanes of Iowa Park Road between Harris Lane and City View Drive as they work to extinguish the flames. Residents who utilize this portion Iowa Park Road are encouraged to find an alternate route as crews battle the blaze.
