Jam out with Warbonnet Records on Kemp on upcoming Record Store Day

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — An annual musical monument celebrating culture and the importance of independent record stores falls on Saturday, April 20, and Warbonnet Records is taking part in the celebration.

Record Store Day is on the third Saturday of April each year, and multiple labels and artists release special vinyls and CDs for the occasion.

Even though you can stream the creativity, nothing beats the raw sound of record players.

"Record Store Day is something like double black Friday," owner of Warbonnet Records Bill Lemmon said.

Mosquito season could start earlier this year

The short run of releases from artists allows enthusiasts to celebrate on the annual holiday.

"[An] artist started Record Store Day a number of years ago, and it was to support independent record stores in the face of the growing streaming business, the online retailers, the big box stores. So, it's to help us compete against those entities," Lemmon said.

Warbonnet will be selling special releases like Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan's "Stick Season," along with several other giveaways.

"Records, t-shirts, some audio gear, things like that," Lemmon said. "It's going to be a lot of fun."

But if you're looking to add to your collection or sift through to find Billy Joel or Jimi Hendrix, Lemmon will provide an immersive environment for lovers of the classics.

"We've got a black light room. That's a lot of fun for folks," Lemmon said. "We carry a lot of CDs, cassettes and those types of things, too. We try to create an environment here where we're it's a lot of fun to flip through those racks and find that record you've been looking for for a long time, maybe one you had when you were a kid, or for the younger folks, that new vinyl that they've been looking for."

So if you need a new vinyl to drop the needle on, record store day is the perfect day to grab one and maybe cry to some Merle Haggard.
