Mother arrested after removing IV from child at United Regional, police say

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A Wichita Falls mother has been arrested after taking her young son to the emergency room for seizures.

Sharon Payton Alexander Parker, 30, took her 4-year-old son to the emergency room at United Region early Thursday morning, March 21, for what she said were seizures.

At 1:03 a.m., officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department were notified that the 4-year-old tested positive for having methamphetamine in his system. Parker was also notified that her son tested positive for meth.

When officers arrived, they completed a report to notify the WFPD Crimes Against Children Detectives and CPS for further investigation.

Officers were then called back to United Regional ER at 4:14 a.m. when staff notified police that Parker had removed the IV from her son and left the hospital against the advice of staff. Police said they found the IV in the trash can.

Officers were called back to the hospital at 5:18 a.m. after the child was brought back to the hospital due to another seizure.

At 9:37 a.m., officers arrested Parker on charges of child endangerment.

The child was admitted to United Regional and was later transported to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where he is said to be in stable condition.

The report of methamphetamine in the child’s system is still under investigation, according to WFPD.
