Mother who left kids alone back in jail

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A woman who was placed on probation in 2022 after leaving children ages 11 months to 7 years alone in a home on North Travis is back in jail after prosecutors said she violated the probation on numerous counts, including use of drugs.

Woman charged with leaving children ages 11 months to 7 home alone

Rebekah Craighead, 33, is now jailed on $30,000 bonds on three counts of child abandonment.
The motion to revoke the probation, among other violations, states she admitted testing positive for the drug benzodiazepine and did not have a prescription. It also said she committed a new crime, criminal trespass, last August, failed to report to her probation officer for several months, failed to submit a urine sample, and has remained unemployed.

The sentence for child abandonment was Craighead's third sentence with probation, with one in 2009 for intent to deliver drugs and one in 2021 for possession of a dangerous drug.

The current suspended sentence was deferred, meaning had she successfully completed it, the conviction would not go on her record.

Police said she left the children, ages 11 months, five years and seven years, alone in the house while she went to another house to take a shower.

The children's father told police he left his kids with Craighead when he left for work around 6 a.m. An hour later, he found out the kids were alone, without access to a phone in an emergency, and called his father to check on them.

When police located Craighead, they said she told them she had been in a hurry to shower at another house.

Craighead has had 15 arrests since 2008, which, besides drugs, include assault, family violence, violation of probation, violation of a protective order, and a charge in Jefferson County, Ok. for DUI.
